We are seeking a synthetic chemist to help us execute tasks that require a multi-disciplinary approach and outside -the-box thinking. You'll join a hardworking and dedicated team of scientists who collaborate toward fulfilling our sponsors needs using a chemical approach. As a member of our team you will work with physicists, engineers, analytical chemists and biologists to tackle the US Department of Defense's most important problems.

As an Organic Chemist...

  • Your primary responsibility will be to plan and execute laboratory experiments as part of a team of scientists.
  • You will use your skills in organic, analytical, and experimental research to make progress to scientific milestones.
  • You will work as part of a diverse team that includes scientists of all backgrounds.
  • You will have the opportunity to propose your own work and explore new areas of research using the many resources available on APL's campus!

You will meet our minimum qualifications if you...

  • Have a BS degree in chemistry, chemical engineering or a related field.
  • Have 2 years experience working with small molecules as a part of chemical research.
  • Are highly skilled in bench research and are able to conduct standard organic chemical synthesis, purification and analysis.
  • Are willing and able to work with other scientists and communicate with non-chemists.
  • Are able to obtain a Secret level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

  • Have a MS degree.
  • Have 2 or more years of Project Management experience.
  • Have pilot or process scale chemistry experience.
