We are hiring a postdoctoral fellow to conduct biochemistry research elucidating chemical interactions in biological systems at the molecular level. You will join a dedicated team of scientists who collaborate on enzyme engineering and probe development. We strive to foster an innovative, inclusive environment for generating bold research ideas. As a member of our team, you will work with physicists, engineers, chemists, and biologists to tackle critical problems for government sponsors in national security and health. 

As a Chemical Biology postdoctoral fellow...
- Your primary responsibility will be to propose and conduct research involving protein engineering, structural biochemistry, or novel small molecule development.
- You will use techniques in protein expression and purification, as well as mechanistic enzymology, to apply novel solutions for therapeutic or probe development.
- You will work with a multidisciplinary team that includes synthetic chemists, chemical engineers, data scientists, and molecular biologists to conduct biomolecular research on a wide range of projects that involve end-to-end design and development.
- You will have opportunities to pursue research on topics of your own interest through internal and external grants as well as utilize APL's analytical chemistry and organic synthesis infrastructure.

You will meet our minimum qualifications if you...
• Have a Ph.D. in chemistry, chemical biology, biophysics or a related field.
• Have significant experience working with chemical processes specific to proteins, biopolymers or other macromolecules to conduct research involving enzyme engineering and/or probe development.
• Are highly skilled at research and are able to propose new projects.
• Demonstrate the ability to work with other scientists and connect with the broader scientific community through publication, patents, and presentations.
• Are able to obtain a Secret level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...
• Have demonstrated proficiency in both organic synthesis and biochemistry.
• Have familiarity with high-throughput screening, drug-discovery or pharmacology.
• Come from a technically diverse background and have collaborated with biologists, engineers, or physicists in other laboratories or institutions.

Special Working Conditions: Travel 15-20%
