We are seeking an inventive Embedded Systems Software Engineer to join the Imaging Systems Group. As a member of our team, you'll contribute to system development, experimental, and integration efforts for systems that will have immediate impact to our Nation’s security and status. As a member of our team, you will:

  • Implement and optimize novel algorithms and methods for computer vison and machine learning and support testing and systems engineering activities for embedded systems.
  • Assist in the brainstorming and development of new initiatives/concepts in optical imaging and processing through internal research and development (IR&D) efforts.
  • Develop and deploy algorithms and software for image and singnal processing, data analysis, experimental automation, and/or subsystem control and testing.
  • Capture technical contributions in internal memoranda/reports and conference/journal papers. Present findings and recommendations at internal and external forums.
  • Direct and support field integration and testing activities of developed system

Minimum requirements for your role include...

  • BS degree in electrical/computer engineering, computer science, imaging science, or equivalent experience and 1 or more years relevant experience in algorithm and embedded system development.
  • Analytical experience and technical breadth in a wide variety of operational and technological issues. Strong organizational and planning skills. Significant programming experience in C++ and Python programming languages.
  • Have experience in one or more of the following areas: TensorFlow, PyTorch, Docker, OpenCV, CUDA, user interface design and development, embedded AI and ML computing, synthetic data generation, autonomy, robotics, image segmentation and object detection algorithms.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team and possessing strong interpersonal, speaking, and technical writing skills.
  • Possess experience working with Edge Processing platforms such as the NVIDIA Jetson Series.
  • Are able to obtain Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
  • Can demonstrate that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. To ensure the safety and well-being of the community, APL has established a policy requiring that all staff be vaccinated against COVID-19. All staff members must provide proof of full vaccination or have an approved medical or religious accommodation by their start date.

Additional desired skills and qualifications include...

  • Possess a Master's degree and/or at least 8 years proven experience in optical remote sensing systems development.
  • Extensive experience with embedded GPUs and TPUs as well as FPGAs and microcontrollers.
  • Have a background in circuit-board design, development, and fabrication.
  • Experience in autonomy work involving multiple sensor suites.
  • Currently possess an Active Department of Defense Secret security clearance with ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance.
