Do you have an expertise in designing harnesses for aerospace products?

 

If so, you may be a fit for APL.

 

The Harness Engineer will be part of a harness development team and contribute to the electrical design, mechanical design, engineering, test, and installation support of wiring harness for flight and/or ground support. You will work with the Harness Lead Engineer to develop the design for the wiring harnesses, document the design, coordinate the fabrication of the harnesses and assist with testing of flight product. You will perform electrical/mechanical engineering design tasks relating to wire harness/cable design and interconnecting of electronic equipment. The harness engineer will also work with component lead engineers and/or vendors to assess and respond to interface information.  Candidate should be familiar with harness CAD packages such as CREO Cabling, Creo Schematics, or similar.

 

As a Harness Engineer...

  • You will work closely with harness lead engineers to design, build, test and integrate spacecraft harnesses

  • You will interpret detailed component performance specification and Interface Control Document (ICD)

  • You will interpret assembly manufacturing drawings, parts lists, cable design, and engineering change support documents

  • You will assess design requirements and generate design documentation using Creo Schematics

  • You may support program planning from a cost, technical and schedule perspective

  • You may help to manage conceptual design, trade studies, drawing generation and documentation release, and testing requirements

  • You will interface with other disciplines, such as Systems Engineering, Electrical/Mechanical/RF Design, Manufacturing Engineering and Quality Assurance to ensure program requirements are being met

  • You will provide support to both in-house and outside cable manufacture and fabrication

  • You will assist with electrical and mechanical design and documentation 

  • You will assist with Work Order generation and various fabrication tasks

  • You may generate hi-pot test programs

  • You may conduct hi-pot testing of flight hardware and documentation close out

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Are willing and able to work in cleanrooms and labs

  • Have a BS degree in Electrical/Mechanical/Industrial Engineering or equivalent and 5+ years of experience.

  • Familiar with design of electrical interconnects for spacecraft or airborne equipment

  • Experience working with program requirements, EMI/EMC implementation in cables, equipment performance specs, wire connection lists, schematics, wire gauge sizing, connector selectrion and related cabling and harnessing documentation.

  • Strong written and oral communications skills

  • Able to demonstrate problem solving skills

  • Familiar with harness related Mil standards and requirements, NASA standards and requirements for harness workmanship, AS9100 or ISO9001 compliance

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as both a team leader and a team member, building effective relationships with engineers, technicians and program managers

 

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

 

  •  Are proficient in Creo schematics for harness development

  • Have hands-on experience with spacecraft design and integration

  • Have familiarity with COTS harness parts and materials for spacecraft use

  • Demonstrate experience in spacecraft electrical/mechanical design engineering, including wire harness/cable design and electronics equipment interfacing

  • Have a Masters in Engineering
