Do you have an interest in autonomous systems and unmanned platforms?

Do you thrive in a collaborative environment across a wide range of technical areas?

If so, we are looking for someone like you to join our team at APL.

We are seeking a Human Factors Engineer to help us incorporate human factors into full lifecycle rapid prototyping for manned and unmanned platforms.  You will be joining a hardworking team of engineers who cultivate a human centered approach to the development of autonomous systems, specifically in the area of test and evaluation.  We strive to foster an environment where the end users are at the forefront of design and where fleet impact is a critical component of our work. As a member of our team, you will contribute to the mission-critical readiness of naval systems.

As a Human Factors Engineer...

  • You will analyze, review, assess, and make recommendations on human-system design and development for unmanned systems including requirements analysis, task design/redesign, use case development, functional flow and workload modeling.
  • You will work closely with warfighters/operators to capture performance feedback, manned and unmanned teaming tactics, human requirements, technical recommendations, and field test results.
  • You will lead and participate in multi-organization and multi-discipline working groups to review test results and coordinate analyses. Develop approaches to improve the interaction between the human operators and unmanned systems and coordinate efforts with APL staff and government Sponsors.
  • You will support the development and technical review of systems engineering artifacts with an emphasis on human factors, usability evaluation, cognitive engineering, and task analysis.

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you…

  • Have a Bachelor’s degree in Human Systems Engineering, Human Systems Integration, Computer Science or other related disicpline, and relevant experience working with field testing, requirements analysis and development, storyboarding & prototyping, and usability testing.

  • Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Top Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

To ensure the safety and well-being of the community, APL has established a policy requiring that all staff be vaccinated against COVID-19. All staff members must provide proof of full vaccination or have an approved medical or religious accommodation by their start date.

You will go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you….

  • Have a Master's Degree in Systems Engineering, Human Systems Engineering, Human Systems Integration, Computer Science, or equivalent.
  • Have at least 6 years of practical systems engineering experience; with particular emphasis on unmanned systems.
