If so, we're looking for someone like you to join our advanced research team at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory.

 

We are seeking a Senior Neural Decoding Researcher to contribute to and lead pioneering brain-computer interface research for both restoring and augmenting human capabilities.

 

We are a large multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers engaged in groundbreaking research in applied neuroscience, artificial intelligence, and robotics. We are looking for a motivated and collaborative researcher to support neuroengineering development to enable brain-computer interfaces in intelligent systems and health as a strategic advantage for the nation.

 

As a Senior Neural Decoding Researcher...

 

  • Your primary role will be supporting and advancing existing efforts in designing, engineering, and deploying neural signal processing and machine learning algorithms in real-time brain-computer interface systems.

 

  • You will make an impact as a part of a multi-disciplinary research team, collaboratively building a research vision for brain-computer interfaces spanning implanted and non-invasive technologies, health and non-health applications, with government and commercial partners.

 

  • You will assist in the development of new experimental protocols for exploring capabilities enabled by brain-computer interfaces.

 

  • You will mentor junior scientists and engineers in experimental design, neural signal processing, machine learning.

 

  • You will communicate key findings both internally across teams and externally to sponsors, including in proposal development.

 

  • You will join a dedicated team and contribute to neuroscience strategy and leadership.

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

 

  • Hold a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Neuroscience, Neurobiology, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Data Science, Mathematics, or related subject areas.

 

  • Have 1+ year post-graduate experience applying machine learning to neurophysiological data from implanted electrodes.

 

  • Have excellent research and oral communication skills, and the ability to work with a wide range of collaborators.

 

  • Are able to obtain Secret level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you have...

 

  • Familiarity working with different neural signal modalities (e.g., spikes, local field potentials, electrocorticography).

  • Experience applying neural network-based approaches to neural data.

 

  • Experience implementing a real-time brain-computer interface system.

 

  • Experience working on a fast-paced government-funded effort (e.g., DARPA project).
