We are seeking a Systems Accountant to process and maintain all general ledger financial data, lead month-end and year-end cost close activities, and prepare and present the annual Indirect Cost Submission in accordance with internal practices and government regulations. We are looking for someone with a strong focus on partnering, who is diligent with a continuous process improvement approach and excellent organizational, prioritization and interpersonal skills. Also important to success is maintaining accuracy in a fast-paced environment.

 

As a Systems Accountant...

  • Your primary responsibility will be to use Oracle, General Ledger (GL) and Projects (PA), and custom applications to maintain, complete, and review daily, monthly and yearly cost and burdening processing activities. Your attention to detail is crucial to ensuring completeness and accuracy, compliance with internal policy and regulatory protocols, and effective cash management of APL business operations.
  • You will prepare and present the annual Indirect Cost Submission to DCAA and DCMA for the purpose of demonstrating APL’s consistent application of costs and enabling timely indirect rate negotiations.
  • We expect you to apply your good eye for business, technical expertise, and ability to build successful relationships to serve as a technical liaison between the Business Services and IT Services teams to understand user needs and drive efficiency into the business through process improvement and technical innovation under the guiding principles noted below. Cultivating productive relationships and information sharing is important to the successful execution of APL’s missions.
    • Apply a continuous process improvement approach that supports constantly evolving requirements with scalable and adaptable business solutions
    • Standardize where possible; allow for flexibility to support specialties by function
    • Automate when possible to eliminate manual processes and ensure compliance
    • Optimize performance through effective process management, efficient use of resources, and reduced cross-functional barriers
    • Deliver high quality and impactful products/services for our partners that attract and retain confidence
    • Employ an enterprise focus that creates a unity of purpose and recognizes interdependencies between all functional areas and partners
  • You will perform other accounts payable duties as assigned, including supporting Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) audit requests.

 

You meet our minimum requirements, if you....

  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or related field with a strong academic background in Accounting or equivalent years of relevant work experience
  • Can integrate business and technical demands effectively
  • Show outstanding attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Have experience with curating data and developing analytical deliverables
  • Demonstrate analytical and modeling skills with problem-solving aptitude in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
  • Are excellent at maintaining accuracy while multitasking, extracting data needs, prioritizing assignments, communicating progress, and meeting deadlines
  • Exhibit excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills, including the ability to effectively work with all levels of staff
  • Demonstrate the ability to be a self-starter and show a high level of initiative
  • Have a strong desire to learn and can easily adapt to changing environments
  • Are able to demonstrate independent and team based problem solving
  • Show proficiency with business and office applications including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook -- sophisticated Excel knowledge expected
  • Can demonstrate that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. You go beyond our minimum requirements, if you have....

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and/or Masters of Business Administration (MBA)
  • Have 2 or more years of professional relevant work experience
  • Experience with an Oracle accounting system environment (i.e., Oracle Projects and General Ledger) and Data Warehouse applications
  • Working knowledge of Indirect Cost Submission
  • Have experience in a Department of Defense (DoD) or Government contracting environment
