The Talent Development Manager directs APL's Lab-wide training and staff development initiatives aligned to the mission and strategy of APL, including budget responsibilities and staff management.

 

As a Talent Development Manager...

  • Your primary responsibility will be to provide vision, strategy and leadership for your organization and ensure alignment and partnership with other areas of Talent Services to provide targeted programs and services.
  • You will effectively lead a team, supporting programs including leadership & management development, technical training, All Staff Orientation Program (ASOP), administrative staff training, the Part-Time Study Program (PTSP), virtual solutions, and department-specific training & organizational development support.
  • You will provide direction to your team, identify and develop required skills and capabilities, provide effective coaching and promote an environment that stimulates growth and innovation.
  • You will lead all aspects of the training & development facilities and resources, including the budget, ensuring the alignment of resources and commitments to maximize the value APL receives for its training and development investment.
  • You will ensure your team innovates and reflects industry recognized methodologies while bringing forward new insights that push our thinking, improving Talent Services’ strategic capability.
  • You will represent Talent Development on the Total Rewards and Talent Services leadership team, helping to drive effective human resources strategies.
  • You will participate on department teams, deliver executive-level presentations, and perform other ad-hoc special assignments as needed.

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Possess a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in Human Resources, Behavioral Sciences, Education or related field
  • Have over 10 years of experience in training needs assessment, training course and curriculum development, instructional delivery, and training program evaluation methodologies and 5+ years of supervisory experience including performance management, coaching, and staff development
  • Are able to build effective teams, including promoting collaboration with diverse teams
  • Have experience inspiring change within an organization
  • Are skilled in task/project management
  • Are a highly effective communicator and presenter, in all mediums, allowing you to interact effectively with a broad range of management and staff
  • Due to the nature of the work APL performs, if selected, if your work warrants, you may be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

 

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

  • Possess a Master’s degree in Organizational Development or Instructional Design
  • Have experience working with engineers and scientists in a technical environment
  • Have experience using a learning management system, preferably Saba
  • Have experience in any of these additional areas: Organization Development, executive/leadership coaching, the application of current human performance theory and the development and delivery of diversity and inclusion training content.

 

This position is not budgeted for relocation benefits
